CERA’s Youth Advisory Committee

For Preventing Youth Homelessness and Housing Precarity

If you are between the ages of 16 and 30 and have experienced homelessness or housing precarity, we are seeking your input and participation in our Youth Advisory Committee.

The Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation (CERA) is an organization that sees youth homelessness as a complex issue with multiple causes. Homelessness and housing precarity are barriers to a good quality of life, safety, access to justice, education, employment, recreation, and health. Housing insecurity often deprives young people of the ability to be active and heard on issues that concern them. If you have something to say about youth homelessness, we invite you to join CERA’s Advisory Committee where you will have the chance to work with your peers to advise CERA on how to raise awareness about this important issue.

How this works:

CERA will organize up to 10 meetings over a one-year period. Meetings will be held on Mondays or/and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 pm, followed by dinner for all participants. CERA will formally recognize volunteer leadership hours by issuing a confirmation letter and will cover TTC travel costs for each meeting. Gift cards for grocery or retail stores will also be provided to compensate volunteers for their time. Participants will be welcomed and encouraged to participate in additional events and learning opportunities organized and supported by CERA, including: workshops, presentations, consultations, meetings, networking events etc.

CERA works to prevent homelessness in three major ways: preventing evictions by providing direct support and legal information to people who are facing it, advocating for tenants and educating tenants and landlords on human rights in housing, and demanding that decision makers on different levels of government work to provide adequate and safe housing for all.
