Federal Elections 2008

During the 2008 federal elections, WHEN worked to raise public awareness about issues surrounding women’s housing, homelessness, and poverty. WHEN also prepared materials to inform parties on the critical need to address women’s housing and homelessness issues.

Federal Elections 2004 and 2006.

During the federal elections, we worked to raise public awareness about women`s housing, homelessness, and poverty. We challenged candidates and parties to respond to these issues.

Political Outreach

WHEN performs outreach to the Prime Minister, cabinet ministers, MPs, and other federal government officials, to inform them of women`s housing concerns. This past May, at WHEN’s annual general meeting held in Ottawa, WHEN members from across Canada organized meetings with Conservative government representatives, as well as the housing critic from the Liberal, New Democrat, and Bloc Quebecois parties to discuss concerns regarding housing, homelessness, child apprehension and social assistance rates. WHEN members provided political parties and government representatives with publication packages to better inform them of the present barriers affecting women in Canada and their ability to secure safe, adequate, and affordable housing.

Federal-Provincial-Territorial Housing Ministers' Meeting

WHEN delivers submissions to the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Housing Ministers' Meetings to ensure that women`s needs are represented.
